Protect Home Appliances from Voltage Fluctuations

How to Protect Home Appliances from Voltage Fluctuations?

First of all, to protect home appliances from voltage fluctuations, you should check the incoming voltage from your transformer — but this task must be done by a professional. File a complaint with WAPDA to have your transformer inspected, as voltage fluctuations often occur when the neutral phase is not working properly.

If the transformer is working fine and the voltage fluctuations are caused by an overload (especially during the summer season), then follow these tips to protect your household electronic items.

There are two main ways to protect your appliances from voltage fluctuations:

  1. Always use a digital voltage protector breaker on your main power supply.
  2. Install a voltage stabilizer (up/down transformer) on your main connection to manage high and low voltage automatically.

Use Digital Voltage Protector Breaker to Protect Home Appliances :

A digital voltage protector breaker is installed on your main electricity connection to protect your home appliances from voltage fluctuations. You can set the maximum and minimum voltage limits on the device. When the incoming voltage goes beyond your set range, the breaker automatically cuts off the power supply to prevent damage. Once the voltage returns to a safe range, it restores the electricity.

You can also set the AMP limit and delay time for turning the supply on or off, offering extra safety for your electronics.

These breakers are easily available in the market and cost around PKR 2500 to 3000.

Use Voltage Up/Down Stabilizer:

The second method to protect your home appliances is by installing a voltage stabilizer. It helps manage high voltage fluctuations and boosts low voltage to ensure a stable power supply for your electronics.

Modern stabilizers offer two main features:

  1. Automatic voltage adjustment – They regulate incoming voltage by either boosting or reducing it to a safe level.
  2. On/Off delay setting – You can set a delay time for restoring power after a shutdown to protect sensitive appliances.

Voltage stabilizers are especially useful in rural areas, where WAPDA lines are longer and voltage is often low or unstable.

Although a voltage stabilizer may cost between PKR 20,000 to 30,000 for a small house, it protects appliances worth millions—making it a smart investment for long-term safety.
