No Change in MEPCO Peak Hours, Morning Is NOT Peak Time
Many people have been talking about (in fear) new peak hours for electricity in Pakistan. Some even said that morning hours (a sheer unfortunate) are now also counted as peak hours (no one wants this, actually).
Let’s clear this up:
This is false news. This rumor is spread with a purpose. People want to get viral on social media. This is something best-selling. You just need to spread fake news. Especially the news that affects people’s interest. Such fake news goes viral in a matter of minutes.

What Did the Power Division Say?
On July 12, 2025, at 9:43 PM, the Power Division posted on its official Twitter/X page.
They said:
“There is no change in policy. Peak hours refer strictly to evening and night hours. No morning hours have been added.”
So don’t worry the 4-hour peak time is still the same as before.
What Are Peak Hours?
Peak hours are the time when people use the most electricity. This usually happens in the evening, after sunset (the family time starts), when people return home from work.
They switch on:
· Lights
· Fans
· ACs
· TV and other appliances
Because of this high use, the load on the system goes up. To meet this demand, more power plants are turned on, even the expensive ones. That’s why these hours are called “peak hours.”
MEPCO Peak Hours by Season (2025)
Here is the official peak hour schedule shared by MEPCO:
Season | Months | Start Time | End Time |
Winter (Sarma) | December to February | 5:00 PM | 9:00 PM |
Spring (Bahar) | March to May | 6:00 PM | 10:00 PM |
Summer (Garma) | June to August | 7:00 PM | 11:00 PM |
Autumn (Khizaan) | September to November | 6:00 PM | 10:00 PM |
It is clear from the above table that:
· These hours (Peak Hours) have not changed.
· There are no morning peak hours.
Why This Rumor Is a Problem!
· Spreading fake news creates confusion.
· People might start changing their daily routine.
· They may use less power in the morning, thinking it will cost more.
But in reality, nothing has changed. The Ministry of Energy also said they may take legal action against those who spread false updates.
